Closed Guard Beginners course

Lessons

Lets go into, positioning yourself and some other core details to have an effective Closed Guard. Here we get to discover together why BJJ is so fascinating and how some details can make such a difference.

Concepts

Lets get to understand Grips, a few options and the impact it does on controlling someone.

Concepts

GI, NO GI, MMA... Kimuras are one of the most trendy and effective submissions out there. One of the best way to understand the concept of leverage.

Submissions

Choking is absolutely a tricky thing to learn, angles and pressure vary in such an small angle with huge differences. look at this video many times as u need, but dont try too much on ur partner, it can be a bad idea for his brain cells =).

Submissions

Probably one of the highest percentage submission on the white and blue level, pay good attention and start trying tomorrow =).

Submissions

One of the most, if not the most, effective choke out there.

Submissions

Lets play with what we learned

Submissions

If you train under me or Teta, this is must to know. Our Master Ricardo Liborio was defiantly the most effective to use this technique I have ever seen. Here is a variations for the skinny ones like myself, but if u have the pleasure to be in one of his seminars ask him about this technique.

Sweeps

The Flower sweep is old school but holds a very up to date approach. Such a great way to deal with opponents that wants to stal their way to the match. (Not a bad idea if you are winning and end up in closed guard =) ).

Sweeps

Here we take a look into a more realistic approach. Life and BJJ is not as easy as it looks in theory. To every action there is a reaction, and thats where the opportunities shines, timing is everything. Jiu-Jitsu is beautiful.

Sweeps

Not the prettiest, but really effective. good way to learn how to change levels effectively.

Sweeps

Catucada sweep is there since I know BJJ, it is a great way to understand how twisting the knees are an effective way to defeat an opponent with a strong base ( the nightmare of every guard player).

Sweeps

If u can beat them, take their backs. Taking the back is always the best idea once your oponent is bigger and stronger than you ( welcome to my life =) ), there always a way around, in this case we will take it literally.

Sweeps

This is my favorite technique, A great way to start to understand the power u can generate from your hips once you learn how to use ur body to generate momentum. I fucking love BJJ.

Sweeps

Once you are in closed guard, more important than know how to pass or break it, is to know how to avoid submissions or further control.

Defense

Usually the first attack your opponent will try is to attack your neck.

Defense

Defend your arms, a great way to learn also to control someones hips by positioning.

Defense

You will absolutely find yourself in this position, understand te concepts and avoid some core elements and you will find your way out. One of the coolest submission in BJJ.

Defense

Once you are in closed guard we must always think defence first, It is one of the worst position to be in, so there are not much more room for errors.

Passing

The knee trap situation after opening a close guard is one of the most effective way to understand, positioning and leverage trough guard passes. pay attention on the details.

Passing

Another must to know passing, after the guard is open, the fun and the trickiness starts. The under over pass is one of the most common approaches and is very effective when applied correct. Specially if you are on the stronger and heavier side of the equation.

Passing

Controlling someone hips is one of the most effective way to neutralise their legs. Break the ability from your opponent to effectively pushe you or the ground is a great way to advance to a better position.

Passing

When the time is not in your favour, we need to risk a bit more. please make sure you mean when you do this variation, despite being very easy to apply when is done with tenacity and speed, it defiantly have a risk factor in it.

Passing

Now we are taking advantage of our size ( or lack of it). What facinates me in BJJ is how you can turn everything in your favour, even being small. Once you are smaller than ur opponent

Bonus classes

Closed Guard Beginners course

Our first course, Closed guard is one of the best way to get a good understanding on BJJ. Beside being a super effective and fun position, Closed Guard is for me the best position to learn some of the core concepts of our art.

Let's explore the importance of distance ,levels, angles ,framing, base, balance, pressure and strategy in a few fun classes.

By the end of this course you should have a better understanding the BJJ fundaments we rely our school on and hopefully will become a Closed guard fan as I am.
